CARNIVAL QUEEN 2017: My name is Lara Dullam-Devlin. I went to Route 39 school and was previously Deputy Head girl. But I am currently being home-schooled and doing a part time college course. I am 15 years old and my hobbies include surfing, netball, public-speaking and going to the gym. When I’m older I either want to be a midwife or an MP as I am passionate about fighting for women’s rights. I believe that the battle for equal rights is not over and has only just begun. I wanted to be Holsworthy Carnival Queen as I want to make a difference in our community by doing more fundraising and by giving an opportunity to bring young people and ‘not so young people’ together. I believe that every elderly person has a story to tell, and that we can all learn from their experience. I feel honoured to take on the role of Carnival Queen, and I want to inspire more people to take an opportunity like this when it is right in front of them. It is important to follow your dreams and not give up, no matter what life throws at you.
FAIRY QUEEN 2017: Hello, my name is Ruby Stephens and I am 8 years old. I live in Holsworthy and I go to Bradworthy Primary School. I have lots of hobbies that I enjoy, these include gymnastics, reading, swimming, gardening and lots more. I would like to be Holsworthy Fairy Queen as this is something I have wanted to do since I can remember watching Holsworthy Carnival. I love all things pretty, and I would enjoy being part of Holsworthy Carnival and representing Holsworthy at other Carnivals during the year.
HOLSWORTHY CARNIVAL is a fortnight today, so the reign of the 2016 Carnival Royalty is coming to an end. This is what they had to say about their experiences:
CARNIVAL QUEEN KATIE HOLLIS: I was thrilled to be given the role of Carnival Queen 2016, and I have enjoyed every moment representing Holsworthy at the Carnivals we have attended. It has been an amazing opportunity, and I would like to thank, firstly, my wonderful attendants, Mia Polhill, Louise Shepherd and Rosie Toms as I could not have done it without them. I would also like to thank Ted England, Dave Jones and Tim Healy for all their help during the year. And finally, I would like to thank Holsworthy Lions for choosing me for the role. I wish the new Carnival Queen the best of luck for the upcoming year, and I hope she enjoys her reign as much as I did. I am looking forward to seeing everybody on 18 November to hand over my crown to the new Carnival Queen 2017.
FAIRY QUEEN LARA HILL: Thank you for letting me be the 2016 Fairy Queen. I have enjoyed all the Carnivals. I decided to pick the ‘winterland’ theme as I felt that it was a good choice because the weather was very cold. Thank you again, and best of luck to the 2017 Fairy Queen.
